Are you considering breast augmentation and need more information? The first and most important thing to consider when thinking about breast augmentation is that you must think of the implant as a machine. Breast implants have a lifespan like any other machine. This may be 15 years, this maybe 25 years but most people will have to change their implants in a lifetime.
There are two types of implants amendment that available today for breast augmentation: saline filled and silicone gel filled implants. Silicone gel filled implants are softer more natural. Saline filled implants are put in empty and thus need a smaller incision.
Most of the time breast implants are placed under the pectoralis major muscle. When the implants are placed under the muscle they feel more natural because the natural tissue on top of the implant. The chance of scar tissue formation(capsilar contraction) may be less when the implant is placed under the muscle.
While the patient does experience some pain after breast augmentation surgery, most people do not have severe pain. On the first night after surgery most patients have a throbbing, achy pain. On the second day this pain is much less. Most patients only require pain medicine for 2 to 3 days. The best will be swollen and high initially and as the swelling goes down the implants will fall to their proper location. It will take approximately 2 months for the final look.
Although the surgery takes just a couple of hours, recovery takes a few days. Thus, most patients take 5 to 7 days off of work. There is absolutely no exercise for two weeks. After two weeks treadmill level exercise can be done. Four to six weeks must pass before heavy lifting or heavy exercise can be done.
The complications that must be considered with breast augmentation are capsular contraction, infection, hemorrhage, decreased nipple sensation and rippling.
